I'm proud to say that I woke up this morning to go to church even though I slept at 4:30 AM last night trying to finish writing my paper! =D =D And I'm glad that I did because my heart was touched by God once again today through the sermon. I went to the Waterloo Mennonite Brethren Church and they are doing a series of teaching about the book of Nehemiah. It is amazing because they don't even know what to preach about. They are doing this by faith, week by week, asking God to reveal more from the book!
Today, we read from the Book of Nehemiah, Chapter 1. Nehemiah heard the news about Jerusalem, about how the city was torn down and that the people were not doing so well. The city was a disgrace. After he heard the news, he "sat down and wept." His heart was broken into pieces to hear that his city and his people are in ruined. Ps. Paul, as he was preaching, recalled a verse in Luke 19:41 that says, "But as they came closer to Jerusalem and Jesus saw the city ahead, he began to WEEP." Jesus wept over Jerusalem because the people of the city did not turn to God. Now, what amazes me is that, Nehemiah's heart breaks with what breaks Jesus' heart. They share the same heart and compassion, which was for the people to know about God.
Today's take-home message for me is, what breaks my heart? What makes me weep? Does my heart break with the things that break Jesus' heart? I need to ask God to give me a broken heart for the people. I want to be able to share the good news that I have, the joy that I have from the Lord, this priceless happiness to people out there who are clueless about their purpose of living on this Earth.
I have more to share about today's sermon, but I think I will save it for another day. Keep yourselves tuned! =)
Happy Sunday!
